In 1984, Mario launched his own business - Martin Plumbing and Heating Services, based in Leeds LS17 and serving north Leeds together with Wetherby and the villages in-between such as Collingham, Boston Spa, Harewood, Bardsey, Scarcroft and Thorner.

It is this dedication to raising the standard of the plumbing and heating industry which Mario has tried to pass on to the next generation of heating engineers and plumbers.
As well as teaching first year students at the Leeds College of Building, Mario has also visited schools to emphasise the importance of a sound general education and to promote plumbing and heating engineering as a career.
In 2007, Mario was asked by the Leeds
College of Building to take part in a
corporate video to promote apprenticeship courses at the college.
Mario's commitment to education led to him launching the Asbestos Awareness Campaign in Leeds in 2006, which was highlighted in the Yorkshire Evening Post.

It is nearly 40 years since Mario Martin started his career in the plumbing and heating profession. On leaving school in 1975, he served a three-year apprenticeship with one of the leading bathroom and appliances companies in Leeds at the time, Jones of Oakwood. During this period, he attended Leeds College of Building where he gained Distinctions in each of his examinations. For four consecutive years, Mario was also awarded prizes for his work by the Leeds College of Building.
At the end of his apprenticeship in 1978, Mario spent the following five years with Butterfields Plumbing and Heating in Wetherby, gaining experience in every aspect of plumbing, heating and gas engineering.
Mario Martin's many awards, including Britain's Favourite Plumber, Tradesperson of the Year and Domestic Installer of the Year, are a testament to his professionalism and the high quality of his workmanship.
